0870 IS CHANGING . . .

OFCOM have determined that in 2008 the cost of calling 0870 numbers will be dramatically reduced. (A timescale is currently being discussed - please see our news page for full details on this.)

This means that number providers will lose the revenue stream currently generated by these numbers, which currently allows companies such as Coach House Communications to offer your business management of 0870 numbers with NO service charges, and a generous monthly rebate.

In short, you will soon pay to receive incoming calls on your 0870 number.

What are the alternatives?

  • Option 1 - Change your numbers to 0844 - these numbers cost 4.25ppm to call (excluding VAT). This is almost half the costs of calling 0870, yet still generates a revenue stream, allowing us to offer a rebate (dependent upon call volume). Many household names have already taken this option, such as Next Directory and Viking Direct, bringing this prefix to the fore.


  • Option 2 - Change your numbers to 0871 - these numbers cost 8.5ppm to call (excluding VAT). This number has all the benefits of 0870, and will even generate a higher revenue stream.

Whichever option you choose, the new numbers can be run in tandem with existing 0870s and promoted to your customers. Once Ofcom's planned changes are implemented, all customers should be calling the new numbers. In the unlikely event any old 0870s are still in use, we also have the ability to put a message on the line giving customers the new number.
